Nearly every guitar player has seen the iconic photo of Robert Johnson decked out in his pin-striped suit and Fedora hat holding a battered L-1. My R-1 pays homage to this guitar but with a few changes. The original L series guitar had a very short string length of 24-1/4” and 12 frets to the neck. By enlarging the shape 4%, I could get the shape to work with a 24.9” scale and 14-frets to the neck. The proportions of the body yield a very versatile shape that works with a 12-, 13-, or 14-fret neck. A very deep side dimension is also optional as seen in the Nick Lucas guitars. I have plans to make this shape as a nylon-string crossover guitar with 14-frets to the neck and a 640mm (25.2”) scale length.
Available with a 24.9” scale and just about any wood combination.
Supplied with a TKL or Guardian case and Waverly open-backed tuners.
